ASFPM #GivingTuesday

The ASFPM Foundation continues to change lives and provide opportunities to develop young men and women into leaders who will strengthen our profession and guide the future of flood risk management.  Our sister organization, ASFPM Foundation, will again join the National Day of Generosity, #GivingTuesday, November 29. It’s a day when we can positively impact the future of our profession. All #GivingTuesday donations with be directed to the Future Leaders Scholarship.

In 2018, the ASFPM Foundation established the Future Leaders Scholarship (FLS) to provide direct financial assistance, mentoring and support to a deserving college student.  In 2018, the ASFPM Foundation awarded its first FLS to Jesus Mulgado, who has since graduated from college. Since then, two additional recipients were awarded a FLS, Elizabeth Lacey and Esme Nelson.  At the 2022 ASFPM Conference National Conference, the ASFPM Foundation announced it will fund a second FLS beginning in 2023to the tune of $20,000.

I believe in the power of this scholarship to build future leaders in flood risk management. I’d like to challenge each of you to actively participate in #GivingTuesday by joining me in donating. Every gift moves us closer to this year’s goal of raising $40,000. If every member gave even just $3 to $5, we would easily meet this goal and even help the foundation expand the number of scholarships available in the future.

Here are a few simple ideas for how you can participate:

  • Make a gift of $5, $10, $20 or more on #GivingTuesday [www.asfpmfoundation.org/give-now or text FLOODS to 77948].
  • Follow @asfpmfoundation on Twitter. Like and retweet the Foundation’s tweets.
  • Help us get the word out on social media, using the hashtag’s #GivingTuesday #asfpmfoundation #floodsorg
  • Take an “unselfie” telling why the Future Leaders Scholarship matters to you and share it on your social platforms.
  • Call or email your colleagues and challenge them to give as well.

With your help and support, we can continue to fund the Future Leaders Scholarship and help more undergraduate students fulfill their dreams of becoming floodplain management professionals.
